    Ireland's Wife-Carrying Championships were on in Co Kerry today.

    The event, which was inspired by a similar competition in Finland, was being staged as part of the Sneem Family Festival.

    The contest involved women being carried over a 250m course, including dry and water obstacles.

    Advertisement
    Organisers say couples did not have to married to take part, but they had to be over 18.

    Contestants who weighed less than 49kg were given a loaded rucksack to make up the minimum weight.

    Dropping a wife carried a 15-second penalty.

    The winning couple with the fastest time received an expenses paid trip to represent Ireland at the world championships in Finland next July.

  • Media Broadcasting 101 :D

    The principle of a Dynamic Microphone is such that sound moves the cone and thus the attached coil of wire in the field of the magnet is also moved. This in turn produces a voltage which "images" the sound pressure variation - characterized as a pressure microphone.

    IN CONTRAST....

    A Condenser Microphone is constructed in such a way that the diaphragm is mounted close to, but not touching, a rigid backplate. A battery is then connected to both pieces of metal, which produces an electrical charge between them.

    Advantages of a dynamic mic are:

    1. Its rugged and relatively cheap
    2. Can be easily minaturized

    Advantages of a condenser mic are:

    1. It has a greater overall frequency response....which makes it desirable for recording in most situations.

    valentia coastguard is to stay open.....just got news in before 6...litterly was told to read the weathar at a snails pace so it could be written up and i could get it in!!! bad car crash; tax defaulters list in late in the evening; oral hearing ended; oh and there's more!!! crazy...me, aisling and Treasa trying to do everything!!!
